What We Do
Fire Protection Services
Fire protection is the combination of systems (sprinklers, alarms, emergency lighting and backflow assemblies) that a building is required by the BC Building Code to install and by the BC Fire Code to maintain. Poseidon designs, installs, inspects and maintains all of them for commercial, strata and industrial properties across Metro Vancouver, the Fraser Valley and the Sea to Sky corridor, under one contract.
Systems We Install
An installed fire protection system is one the BC Building Code requires at construction, verified and signed off before a building can be occupied.

Sprinkler Installation
A fire sprinkler system is a network of pressurised pipe and heat-activated sprinkler heads that controls a fire at its source. Wet, dry, pre-action, deluge and ESFR systems, designed and hydraulically calculated to NFPA 13.

Fire Alarm Installation
A fire alarm system is the detection and notification network that warns occupants before a fire spreads. Panels, detectors, pull stations and notification appliances, plus the CAN/ULC-S537 verification report your occupancy permit depends on.

Emergency Lighting
Emergency lighting is the battery-backed lighting that keeps the means of egress visible when normal power fails. Unit equipment, remote heads and running-man exit signage, installed and load-tested.

Backflow Prevention
A backflow prevention assembly is the valve that stops stagnant sprinkler water from reversing into the potable supply. RPZ and DCVA assemblies on the fire service connection, installed and annually tested by a certified tester.
Programmes We Maintain
A maintained fire protection system is one the BC Fire Code requires the building owner to keep in operating condition for the life of the building: on a fixed inspection cycle, with records the authority having jurisdiction can ask to see.

Fire Inspections
Inspection, testing and maintenance is the recurring programme that keeps sprinkler, alarm, backflow and emergency lighting systems compliant. Water-based systems to NFPA 25, fire alarms to CAN/ULC-S536. You receive a written report, a deficiency list, and AHJ-ready records.

Fire Safety Plans
A fire safety plan is the BC Fire Code document that sets out how a building’s occupants and staff respond to a fire. Building fire safety plans for owners and property managers; construction fire safety plans for active sites.

24/7 Emergency Service
A system impairment is any condition that takes a fire protection system out of service. We respond around the clock, restore the system, and document the impairment, including the fire watch the code requires while protection is down.
Industries We Serve
The occupancy of a building determines which standard its fire protection system is designed to, and how often it must be inspected.
Multi-Family & Strata
High-rise concrete to NFPA 13, wood-frame residential to NFPA 13R, and the recurring strata inspection programme that follows.
Warehouse & Distribution
ESFR, in-rack and high-piled storage design, where commodity classification and storage height drive the system.
Tenant Improvements
Sprinkler alterations during fit-out: the permit threshold, the drawings, and the fire watch while the system is down.
Care Homes & Assisted Living
Occupancies whose residents cannot self-evacuate, which changes the design premise entirely.
